Who made double century in t20
Cricket, one of the most loved sports worldwide, has its history dating back to 16th century England. It quickly gained popularity across the globe and is now the national sport in countries like Australia, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka among others. One facet that sets cricket apart from many other sports is its ability to be played over different formats – Test matches that can last up to five days, One Day Internationals (ODIs) lasting for a day, and Twenty20 matches (T20s), which are generally completed within three hours.
An Overview Of T20 Cricket
The shortest format of professional cricket – the Twenty20 or t20 as it’s commonly referred to- is a fast-paced game filled with excitement and high intensity action. Formally begun in England in 2003 by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) for professional inter-county competition, T20 cricket was introduced to create a more lively form of cricket adapted from traditional test-match cricket.
In T20 games each team faces a maximum of 20 overs (sets of six bowls towards wickets) with an aim to score as much as they can. An innings by a batter could end anytime but notably, due to limited overs, aggressive play is often rewarded which leads us onto the topic at hand – Double centuries in T20s.
Double Century: A Rare Feat In T20 Cricket
Less common than in longer forms of the game like Tests and ODIs due to the constrained number of overs; scoring a double century in T20 cricket requires both exceptional skill and circumstance. In simple terms, a player needs to amass 200 runs during a single inning while batting.
So far in professionally recorded cricketing history — reaching back close to two decades — only four players have achieved this extraordinarily challenging feat: Rohit Sharma and Chris Gayle twice and Aaron Finch and Hazratullah Zazai once.

Chris Gayle – The First To Cross The Double Mark
The first player to ever score a double century in T20 cricket was the renowned hard hitter, Chris Gayle. Playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in an Indian Premier League match against Pune Warriors India on April 23, 2013, Gayle hit an unbeaten 175 off just 66 balls in 73 minutes making him the highest individual run-scorer in any form of…
Rohit Sharma – The Assault On Australia
Rohit Sharma, fondly known as Ro-hitman of Indian Cricket recorded his second ODI double hundred against Sri Lanka and matched the feat in a T20 following suit with his aggressive yet elegant batting. Rohit, playing for Mumbai Indians, set his record while taking advantage of their arch rivals Kolkata Knight Riders’ bowlers, achieving this feat with utter dominance assertiveness.
Aaron Finch’s Massive Strike Rate
Aaron Finch became the third batsman to score a double ton when Zimbabwe felt his wrath during an international T20 match. An Aussie opener by trait, Finch has been often considered as one of most destructive batmen across all formats.
Hazratullah Zazai – New Kid On The Block
Last but certainly not least is Afghanistan’s exciting young talent Hazratullah Zazai who blazed onto the scene scoring a whopping 162* off just 62 balls– a strike rate of over 260 runs per hundred balls!
Given these four extraordinary feats, it is obvious that scoring a double century in Twenty20s calls for not only immense skill and temperament from the batter but also favourable conditions which include limitations like relatively small boundaries offering more opportunities for hitting fours and sixes; weaker bowling attacks or the team batting first. The combination of all these factors makes achieving a double ton in T20s highly commendable and unusual, adding to the intense excitement this format brings to cricket.
