His journey from being an ambitious kid striving for recognition in the shadows of some massive cricketing greats, to becoming one of the best batsmen in current cricket scenario is indeed awe-inspiring. But how and when did he start playing cricket? Here is his story.

The Beginning

Born on October 15, 1994, in Lahore Pakistan, Mohammad Babar Azam developed a passion for cricket at a very young age. He used to watch every single match with an eagerness that clearly showed he was not just another fan. In fact, Akmal brothers – Kamran and Umar who are also well-known names in cricket – saw this spark in him and encouraged him to pick up a bat.

As early as ten years old, Babar started practicing seriously at Model Town Greens Cricket Club in Lahore where many professional players had previously trained. Working diligently day after day under skilled coaches and fine-tuning his cricketing skills gradually built the foundation for his success.

Initial Struggles and Endurance

Like every other sportsperson, Babar too faced numerous challenges during his initial days. However, what made him stand out amidst others were his unfaltering dedication and determination which he used as tools to fight obstacles. At times he struggled owing to lack of resources or financial instability, but these setbacks never deterred him from pursuing his dreams.

Returning home exhausted yet satisfied each night, Babar constantly improved himself – correcting shots that he missed, learning technique tweaks from experts around him until perfection was achieved.

Enter Youth Cricket

Babar’s hard work soon paid off as he found his way into Under-15 and then Under-19 cricket team of Pakistan by showcasing exceptional performances at various levels. It was during the World Cup of U-19, in 2012, when he came into limelight with an average upwards of 50 that led Pakistan’s team to quarterfinals.

Further proving his mettle as a top-order batsman at youth cricket had helped Babar Azam secure a place in domestic cricket where he continued scoring runs and impressed selectors with consistency. Scoring well for ‘Zarai Taraqiati Bank’ in Quaid-e-Azam Trophy during autumn of 2010, he emerged as an undeniable talent which was ready to be honed.

Debut In International Cricket

After performing consistently at domestic level, Babar’s time came in May his debut against Zimbabwe in Lahore. Opting to bat first, Pakistan were 82 for three when Azam walked in – it wasn’t exactly the easiest start but none could tell from watching him play. He played shots all across the ground demonstrating the poise and determination beyond his age.

Although nervousness creeped within him initially on playing alongside cricketers he watched growing up; however Babar’s resilience saw him through that phase too.

Rising To Fame

Ever since then, there hasn’t been any looking back! With each passing inning, Babar not only improved but also added new strokes and techniques to his skillset. Nicknamed as “Run Machine” by his fans – something that testifies his value & ability as a run-scorer has seen him becoming mainstay for Pakistan cricket team across all formats.

He achieved several records including being fastest player reach 1000 One Day Internationals (ODI) runs mark – a feat accomplished in just 21 innings! Today considered one among top ranked international batsmen according ICC rankings despite facing comparatively tougher conditions and stronger bowling line-ups than most of his contemporaries
