Cricket, possibly the biggest sporting pursuit in Pakistan, dates back to when the country was part of India. Under British colonial rule approximately during the late 18th century, cricket began as a highly respected sport that kept gaining popularity among both settlers and locals.

The foundations for an organized form of cricket were set when in May 1948; a cricket board for Pakistan – ‘Pakistan Cricket Control Board’ (PCCB), which we know today as the ‘Pakistan Cricket Board’ (PCB) – was established by Abdul Hafeez Kardar who put enormous efforts into developing cricket all over Pakistan right from scratch. Interestingly enough, Kardar himself had been part of Indian cricket team before opting for representing Pakistan post-partition.

Within just one year of establishment of PCCB in July 1949, Marylebone Cricket Club(MCC) arrived in Karachi marking historical moment where Pakistan finally entered into the international arena officially. MCC was recognised as governing body of world’s cricket during ages.

Baptism By Fire– Test Status

Getting test status means being recognized by International Cricket Council(ICC) as a national representative body able playing highest levelof competition against other nations having similar statuses.
