Rohit Sharma is an Indian international cricketer who has gained fame both nationally and internationally for his impressive sporting talent, especially in cricket. The right-handed batsman is the vice-captain of India’s national team in limited-overs formats, and also captained Mumbai Indians to multiple Indian Premier League (IPL) titles.
Career Beginnings
Sharma was born on April 30, 1987, in Nagpur, Maharashtra. His interest in cricket began at a young age when he would accompany his uncle to matches. He started playing for his school team at the tender age of eleven. He soon found himself boosting up through the ranks and catching the eyes of the selectors with performances that were beyond his years.
Early Domestic Career
At only sixteen years old, Sharma made waves in junior cricket by scoring a century on debut in the Harris and Giles Shield school-level competition. His excellent form continued into 2005 during the Deodhar Trophy where he scored heavily, impressing everyone around him. In response to this success, he was immediately drafted into India A’s tour of Kenya later that year.
Elevation To International Cricket
Later in late 2006, Sharma received his first call-up to join the senior national side as part of the squad for the tournament against South Africa but didn’t get to play any match. But destiny had its plans; Sharma got his ODI debut against Ireland while representing India at Belfast in 2007.
Test Debut & Rise to Fame
His test career started with a bang when he smashed 177 runs against West Indies in his debut Test Match in November 2013. This score still remains one among highest scores by an Indian on debut. From here on, there was no looking back for Rohit “Hitman” Sharma.

Rohit Sharma has always been known for his big-hitting ability. He is the only cricketer in the world to score three double centuries in ODIs and holds the record for the highest individual score in ODI cricket – a staggering 264 off just 173 balls against Sri Lanka at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
T20I Career
Sharma also made quite a mark in T20 Internationals. As of now, he stands as the top run-scorer in T20 internationals with four hundred and more than 2,500 runs in total. Moreover, on five occasions, he has scored more than fifty runs at ICC World Twenty20 matches.
Captaincy Stints
When it comes to captaining a side, Rohit hasn’t been too far behind either. Under his leadership, the Mumbai Indians have won five IPL championships – more than any other team in the competition’s history.
The Leader That India Needs
In December 2017, with Virat Kohli being rested ahead of India’s tour of South Africa, Rohit was named the captain of the limited-overs formats of Indian Cricket Team. Under his leadership, India also managed to clinch the Asia Cup Trophy held in Dubai.

Away from cricket, Rohit tied knots with Ritika Sajdeh who was formerly his sports manager. They welcomed their first child Samaira Sharma into this world on December 30th, 2018.
