London’s most famous cricket ground, Lords, has a mayoral nickname — “Home of Cricket”. The reverence it commands across the globe is unquestioned. The roots of Lord’s can be traced all the way back to 1787 when Thomas Lord, an aspiring cricketer himself, established this ground guided by nobleman art collector William Almack. Of course in those days, it did not boast the magnificence that captivates us today. But post several relocations till its final settlement at St John’s Wood (current location) in 1814, the ground kept evolving into becoming every cricketer’s dream.
